Grammy Goodness

So, did you watch the Grammy's last night? As you know, I live for awards shows, so of course I did. No fashion review today; Grammy fashion is pretty crappy. Singers can't really dress themselves.

So, the MAYJAH news from Grammy Night apparently didn't even happen at the show. Shortly before the show came on, word came trickling down that cutie Chris Brown was a suspect in a domestic battery case. And, he and girlfriend Rihanna both cancelled their Grammy appearances-him, you know, because he had to go down to the station, and her, because of a "car accident" in which she had some "facial bruises." SOOO anyone with two brain cells to rub together can figure this one out. Here's how it allegedly went down-Ri and Chris leave Clive Davis's legendary Grammy Pre-party. About 20 minutes later, Ri calls 911 and names Chris as her attacker. When the po-po arrive, Chris has split the scene and Ri goes to the hospital for treatment of "visible injuries."

So, innocent until proven guilty......but this looks bad. BAD. I mean, an assault occurred-she had visible injuries and called 911, so she HAD to be scared. Scared for her life? He is only 19-and has (had?) a very, very promising career ahead of him. Triple Threat-singer, dancer, actor. I mean-did yall see that Michael Jackson thing he did at the VMAs or some show a couple years ago? And while I'm not a huge Ri fan myself, apparently I am like, the only one. She's huge. So huge that she just keeps releasing the same album over and over with new remixes and stuff and people keep scooping it up like kitty litter.

So, what happens now? Chris's doublemint gum ads have been suspended (but ironically came on like 17 times during the show last night). No one has seen Ri since the incident. But what do we think? Was this the first time? Has he hit her before? What happens to them as a couple? Will she take him back? She'd better not. What happens to him? Can he recover? I think so. I mean, hello R. Kelly. Hello, Ike Turner. Sure, he will have to lay low for awhile, and he'll lose all these endorsements for now. But, he's probably got enough cash to get through for awhile, and he can take some small parts in films, gradually work his way back into the limelight, take a trip to rehab or something, work on his anger issues, and more than likely the public will forgive him. We love to see em fall, but we love to see em come back even more (Hello, Britney). But, to be accused of beating up your girlfriend at 19 years old, when you have money, fame, youth, talent, everything at your doorstep-its not a pretty picture. I hope he gets whatever help he needs, because life ain't gonna get any easier than this. And I hope she does too-because again, if being pretty, wealthy, and having hit records (sorry, I can't bring myself to say she is talented) ain't enough to give you enough confidence to get rid of a loser who hits you, you need some therapy.

Enough about that though-what about the SHOW! Ri was supposed to perform-can you guess who filled in? I kept watching every performance and trying to figure out who was the pinch-hitter. I couldn't. Know who it was? Justin Timberlake, Al Green, Keith Urban, and Boyz II Men. Who would have known? They did a great job filling in at the 11th hour. I enjoyed almost all of the performances, but I think my 2 favorites were Radiohead and the high school band (somewhere my little brother is trying to figure out how to go to THAT school) and the "Hip-Hop Summit" or whatever with Jay-Z and MIA. I don't really like hip hop, but oh my gosh, MIA in that ladybug get-up on her DUE DATE bouncing around, it was a wonder she did not bounce that baby right out. Totally over the top, with the baby belly and that getup, but I kind of loved it! I have no idea why. I just did. Also loved the Four Tops tribute. But I'm a Motown girl.

Oh, and Nashville was represented pretty well I thought-from Robert Plant saying that the "Nashville touch" felt good (my little brother spotted him at the mall a couple of weeks ago) to getting quite a bit of performance time-Kenny, Carrie, Alison and Robert, Keith in two ensembles. Also, Nashville rock band Kings of Leon apparently won an award before the televised show. And of course, Plant/Krauss pretty much cleaned up, also proving that Nashville is not just about country music (although we love our country too).

Good news for Tennessee/Women!

OK, so I have become totally overwhelmed with topics to blog about-and therefore have not blogged at all-so I will try to develop a system and get back on track next week. But until then, Good news for Tennessee Sports Fans (and we could use some with our beloved Titans losing in the playoffs and then watching the Steelers-who we were TOTALLY better than win the Super Bowl)!

Lady Vols coach Pat Summit wins her 1,000th game, setting a new record in Division I college basketball!
http://msn.foxsports.com/wcbk/story/9186724/Summitt-gets-milestone-1,000th-win&MSNHPHCP&gt1=39002

I've had the pleasure of seeing Coach Summit speak at charity events and it is obvious that her passion for her players and developing them into successful women on and off the court is as strong as her passion for basketball. Go Lady Vols!

In more good news for women who may be worried about losing their jobs in this recession.....more than 80% of job losses have been men. This is mostly because of the type industries that have been laying off workers. Female-dominated fields like education and health care have not been impacted as much as manufacturing and general business, so for once, the women win!

So, with both of the Senators from TN voting against the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act last week, at least I am likely to keep my job even if they think its more important to protect the employer who discriminates against me for having a vagina than it is to ensure that I am treated fairly in the workplace.
